I have been attending school at Gymnasium Oedeme for about a week and a half now. So far, I love it, and never want to be homeschooled again.
Most days, I have between 4 and 6 hours of school. Tuesdays and Thursdays I have 7 or 8. I usually start school at 8, and leave between 1 and 4.
I belong to Klasse 10 TrackD.
All the exchange students are spread out between 10A-F. I do not have class with any other foreign people, so that has pushed me a little bit more to make friends-- Which I have.
I have a 3 to 4 double period classes each day, with a 20 minute break in between each, and a 30 minute break at around 1.
I am currently enrolled in 13 subjects. Mathe 10, Chemie 6, Ecconomics, Deutsch 10 , Politik, Englisch 6, Art, Philosophie, Deutsch History, Spanisch, Sport, Musik, Geographie, and Biologie 2. If I were to have chosen my subjects, I would have left out most of the science and more complicated subjects in favor of Latin, Drama, or French. But since I belong to Classe 10D, we do 90 percent of our classes together, so it really isn't an option.
Usually, in Chemie, Ecconomics, Politik, Detusch History, Philosophie, and Biologie, I end up sitting in my seat and working on Deutsch or zoning out for the hour and a half. I can't exactly participate when they are using complex German and working at a fast pace. The teachers of these classes are fine with this, and usually excuse me from Homework and Classwork.
The other 7 subjects however, I can usually participate in to some degree.
Art and Music don't exactly use to much language, and usually involve group projects- two good things for me. I am able to learn something, and team up with my friends, who- if I can't help with the project- speak Deutsch with me while they work.
Deutsch, Englisch and Spanisch are quite ineresting to say the least, and are really to only classes I pay attention in. I try to take detailed notes, and do the homework when possible. These classes are quite hands on, and are not the least bit boring. The people I sit next to are quite lively, and willing to talk to me in free time. Spanisch class is level one, so many of the people are just starting out like me. And in Englisch, many will come to me to ask about grammar.
Some of the Subjects- like mathe and geographie- are more of a review for me. Geography is quite simple, and is interesting. Mathe is about Algebra 1 or Geometry level, so it is a review, and I can usually do the homework without paying full attention in klasse. I am not really learning anything, but I am keeping mathe active.
Sports.... it Sports. No explanation needed. We played Flag Football our first day, and I learned QUITE a bit of 'vocabulary' from playing with all of the guys- which outnumber the girls in 10D 3-1.
I have a private Deutsch lesson with Alvaro and Cibelle, at my house twice a week, with a really nice Deutsch teacher- who does not speak a word of English. She is a genius.
Most of the time, I do not have homework, and if I do, it usually takes me about 15-20 minutes maximum. I usually do it alone, as I can get it done more quickly than if I were to work with Cibelle and Alvaro.
Overall, I am happy with school here, and don't want to leave.
¡Adiós!, Tschüss! Goodbye!
