Lueneburg, Germany: My New Home.

As of about an hour ago, I got an email.  It was from the German-Database Forum coordinator:

I went went over to the database, and checked to see what had changed.  Down in the corner next to the spot where my district number was, was the name of my club : Lueneburg.

Being as curious as I am, I googled it.  A city showed up that was a subburb of Hamburg.  A subburb of Hamburg?  I didn't know that Hamburg was in Distrikt 1800.  I went looking for the map of my District, located Lueneburg.

The red dot is Lueneburg.  Hamburg is about 20 miles North-West of my city.

For those of you not involved with Rotary, and want to see Lueneburg in the grand scheme of things, here is another map:

My city is the red dot.  It belongs to "Lower Saxony" Germany, which is the big purple blob on the map.

Here are some interesting facts about Lueneburg:
~ Home to Germany's largest "Salt Museum"
~ There are two large Catholic Churches (St. Stefan and St. Marien) and a Historical Lutheran Church (John the Baptist)
~ Leuneburg has a population of about 75,000 people.  It is a subburb of Hamburg, which has about 2 million people.
~ One of the McDonalds in Lueneburg is located on "Hamburger Street" (Corny, I know)
~ Located on the Ilmenau river.
~ My Rotary club in Lueneburg (there is only 1) has over 70 members.

Here are some pictures of my lovely city:

I think I am in love!

And here are some pictures of Hamburg I found for good measure:

All and all, I am very happy with where I am being placed!

On another note:

I received my Harry Potter book (German Edition) in the mail.  I have yet to sit down with a good dictionary and struggle my way through it.

Auf Weidersehen!
With Love, From Lueneburg, Germany.

  1. Wow! That's a beautiful city - and so close to Hamburg? Nice! Isn't Leuneburg "close" to Denmark??

I'm looking forward to hear about your family when you'll find out! :D

  2. It is actually quite close to Denmark. I am hoping to visit some of the neighboring countries. :)

I am quite happy that I didn't end up in a town of 200 or something. I like the idea that there might be a transportation system and some other perks that come with living in a small city/town.

And I really can't wait to get my host family! I promise there will be a post as soon as I hear the news!

    Thanks for reading!
