Your Questions: Answered

Ever since I sent in the application for Rotary Youth Exchange, people have been asking me MANY questions.  I am going to answer the ones that have been asked the most.

Why did you want to go on exchange in the first place?

I've always been impressed the idea of Exchange, but I always saw someone else being the foreign kid, not me.  About a year back, I met a girl going to Asia.  I was amazed that someone in my little town in Alaska had the chance to go live abroad.

I looked into the options.  My mom was all for exchange, while my dad took a little bit of convinceing, he is used to my lack of indecision.  After convincing him that I was truely interested in Exchange, we looked into different options. We decided to go with Rotary for various reasons.

Why did you choose Rotary?

First and foremost, my mom had grown up knowing different Rotarians all her life.  She trusted the organization.  Next, was the Ambassador concept.  I liked the idea of being an ambassador for the US, something I might want to pursue later in life.

Then there is my indecision.  I didn't trust myself to choose my country 100% on my own.  Sure I had an idea where I wanted to go, but I didn't want the final decision to be up to me.

Lastly, I think the Blazers are AWESOME!!!

What was your top choice?

Germany hung around the top three in my list since the begining.  I wanted Brazil at one point, and Thailand at another.  After everything had been decided, I was happy with what they gave me: Germany.

Aren't you freaked out a little? You speak barely any Deutsch, you don't know anyone there, and you have to go to school in a different language!

It really hasn't hit me yet.  Still waiting for that to happen.  I'll probably start getting scared withing the next two months.

When do you leave?

Within the next 3-4 months.... hopefully in the middle of July

But we are going to miss you!  How do you plan to stay in contact?

Since this is modern Europe, and since I am going to one of the most technicaly efficient countries, I am hoping that I will be able to get internet conection when I need it.

I have skype, facebook, and an email, so I can be contacted by any of those.

If you are more old fashioned, I would happily be a penpal, and as long as the postiage isn't too much, I will write whenever I am sent a letter.

Anyway, I hope to stay in contact with everyone while gone.

Until the Next Post...
Auf Weidersehen

  2. They keep telling mid-July, but I don't know if that will actually happen. Since I don't have to get a visa, my host district will just tell me when they want me to arrive-- Which could be any time between July and early September.

Once I get some concrete dates, I will post them.

    Thanks for reading :D
