The Polar Plunge: Part 2

Temperature: 7°
Striped Socks: Check
Tutus: Check
Sanity: You could say that....

Today was the 2011 Mat-Su Polar Plunge!  This is an event where when you raise enough pledges, you jump into a freezing lake in the middle of winter for charity.  This year all proceeds benefited the Wasilla Food Bank.
Three exchange students, among a hundred jumpers, waiting for their turn to turn into a human Popsicle to benefit those in need.  We three were wearing outfits a little to risque for this blustery day: I in running shorts, and the others in tutus.

Zarina and Cha-aim both run outside to a roaring crowd.  They are introduced as the Asian exchange students, and they proceed to get a running start into the cold water.  I, close behind, run outside and wait at the edge of the red carpet.  I am then introduced as "the girl with pink socks"-- due to the fact I forgot to fill in the "About Me" section of the announcers card.  Standing there, I wonder what I got myself into. Without time to talk myself out of I am doing, I jump into the chilling water.

I run inside, freezing! I quickly changed and ran to the top floor so I could watch the other jumpers scream as they faithfully plunged into the water.

On a much warmer note:  I asked the local government representatives for lapel pins, and so far, I have received about 100 in the mail.  I think they will be wonderful gifts to give to my future foreign friends.

Time to go work on my German!

Tschüss für jetzt
Aufweidersehen
