You know You're in Deutschland When... (Part III)

  • The back of the pizza box is written in 20 different languages.... EXCEPT English.
  • You buy your snacks at the movies: You sit down in the threatre, and people come around with trays selling ice cream and drinks.
  • Beer can be cheaper than water.
  • Biking everywhere is the norm, and walking to the city is a conceivable idea.
  • You buy bread at the bakery every Sunday morning.  You better get there early, because there are long lines, and they typically close before 11am.
  • That package of skittles at Rossmans might cost you 5€... but the texbook size RitterSport Chocolate is only 99 cents.
  • There is an additional meal of Coffee and Cake squeezed in between lunch and dinner.  Yes, Germans have coffee any time in the day.
  • You are lucky if you manage to track down a Starbucks in Hamburg, but there is a Rossmans on EVERY corner.
  • Tights are leggings and leggings are pants.  Jeans must be skinny... you would be very hard pressed to find any other style of jeans in the store for less than €70.
  • I will say it again.  McDonald's here are WAY classy.  You shouldn't be in anything less than a Burberry Pea Coat to even think about approaching the McCafĂ© counter.
  • You  wear house-shoes inside the house.  Most people have extra house-shoes for guests when they are invited over.
  • You don't wear sweatpants in public.
  • Ugg Boots, Converse Shoes, and Hollister will cost TRIPLE what they are in the US.  A new pair of Ugg boots is going to be 400USD or more.
  • People look at you funny when you drink tap water.
  • It is the end of November.  50°F and no snow.
