The Legend of the Seventh Kinder Egg.

Before I begin with the story, I will fill in on what a Kinder Egg is for those who don't know.

A kinder egg (or Kinder Überaschung in German) is a small chocolate egg, lined with milk.  It's completely hollow, save for a small yellow capsule.

Usually there is a small toy inside.... this is where the German ingenuity comes in, if it can FIT in the capsule, it can go in the Kinder egg.  One time a pulled out a bunch of small pieces that were tightly compacted into the egg, after fully assembling it, it cam out to be a full wind sail craft about 2 times the size of the actual egg.

Most people are vying for little figurines. For example, a small elephant or a smurf.  But they aren't as common as other toys, like stickers.

But moving on with the story.

--------------------------------------

I was in Edeka buying choc-bröt to bring with on the Europa-Tour.  As usual, whenever I reach the Register, I pick up one of the little Kinder eggs.  They all look exactly the same, so I usually pick up the one on top.

As I reach the Register, I saw my very good friend Mirja leaving the store.  I called to her and asked her to wait.  I finished checking out quickly, and hurried over to her.  I pulled the Egg out of my bag as we were walking out the door.  She glanced down at it, and asked me, "Is it a good one?"

I looked at her funny, not exactly understanding what she meant.  As we were walking back to our street, she asked to see the egg.  I gave it to her.  She immediately held it up to her ear and started shaking it with a funny look on her face.  She handed it back, and said, "Better luck next time."

I asked her how she knew what was inside.

She then looked at me and said, "Sarah, do you know the legend of the 7th Kinder Egg?"  I shook my head, and she proceeded.  "In every seventh Kinder Egg, there is rumored to be a a figurine- but only in every 7th.  The figurines are the only ones really worth keeping."  She went on to tell me how the figurines make a distinct sound inside the yellow capsule when shaken.

We reached the door of her house.  Before I crossed the street to go to my house, she said, "Open the Capsule."

I did.  Out fell some plastic holographic stickers.

I went home, and after playing the piano, we eat dinner, and naturally I tell the entire story to my host mother.

------------------------------------------------------

Tonight was my little goodbye dinner, since I'm changing host families/going on Europa Tour on Friday.  My host mom had cake prepared and the table all decorated.  Next to my plate was a Kinder Egg.  As I'm opening it, she says "I hope it's a good one, I shook all the Kinder Eggs at the check-stand until I found one that sounded like a figurine."

I opened the little capsule, and out a little elephant pops out.

Mirja was right.  She's always right.

--------------

Anyway, I decided to make a short post about this since I'm leaving with the Banda Latino 1800 (aka Los Carlitos) on Friday, and didn't want to wait until April.  Sorry about all the typos and such, I don't really have time to edit this, as Mirja is coming over in a few minutes to help me pack and such.  My room is a complete disaster, as I'm trying to pack up all my belongings, while sorting out the stuff I want to take on the tour.

I'm sure I'll be coming back to visit this family often, as they have a grand piano that I am totally envious of, a pair of really cute Guinea Pigs, any my best friends house is right across the street--- Oh yeh, and the family is pretty nice too (and a host mother that enjoys stalking my blog ;-))

So, last post until sometime in April.

Biss Dann!
